オニオンケットとはダークウェブでのみ主催される分散的、検閲耐性のあるオンライン同人誌イベントです。オニオンケットの目的は、アーティストが作品をファンに配布するのに簡単、無料、そして検閲耐性のある方法を提供することです。個人のアーティストは「オニオンシェア」というオープンソースソフトウェアを使って、自分の作品や寄付リンクを含めている簡単な.onionウェブサイトを作成してホストする。一般参加者がアクセスできるようにオニオンケットはアーティストの.onionサイトをまとめて、各アドレスをカタログで発行します。さらに、イベントのチャットそして問い合わせのためにオニオンケットは「Session」という匿名メッセンジャーアプリを使っています。
Onionket is a decentralized, censorship-resistant online doujin/art festival hosted exclusively in the Dark Web, specifically inside Tor Hidden Services created by an open-source program called "OnionShare". Individual artists use OnionShare to create and host simple .onion websites featuring their work and donation links. Onionket collects and publishes a catalog of these links, allowing others to browse and access them. Onionket also uses the anonymous messaging app "Session" for event chat and other inquiries.

オニオンシェアには分かりやすいGUIがあるので、初心者でも簡単なドラッグ＆ドロップ操作を使ってファイルをロードして、ボタンをクリックしてTorネットワークの秘匿サービスでホストできます。さらに、オニオンケットは.onionサイトのテンプレートを提供し、HTMLを知らない作家でも簡単に自分のコンテンツを挿入することができます。さらにそれは、たった1つのファイルを編集するだけでサイトを作成できます。
普通のウェブサイトを作るのに、ドメイン登録とホスティング両方は金が掛かります。オニオンシェアで、.onionアドレスは無料し、コンテンツは自分のPC（それとも他のハードウェア）からホスティングできます。
Torネットワーク上の秘匿サービスの場合、当局や第三者はアーティストのコンテンツを勝手に削除することができません。オニオンケットが利用するツールは全て当局や第三者からの許可が必要ありません。実際に言えば、オニオンケットの主催者でも秘匿サービスでのコンテンツ共有を止めることができません。主催者ができるのはせいぜいコンテンツに断ってカタログに追加させないということぐらいです（そしてごく限定された状況を除いてそういうことをしません）。
OnionShare has a simple graphical interface, allowing inexperienced users to drag-and-drop files into the program and host them as a Hidden Service with the click of a button. Onionket also provides simple templates, allowing artists without experience in HTML to swap out their content, make a few simple edits to an index.html file, and create a site for their content in minutes.
Traditional websites cost money to set up, both for hosting and domain registration. OnionShare allows artists to create an .onion address for free, and lets them host the content from hardware they already own.
No authority or third party can force an artist to remove content hosted on a Hidden Service. None of the tools used in Onionket require permission or approval from anybody else. Not even the Onionket organizers can stop an artist from hosting content. The most we could do is refuse to list it, and we would only do that in a very narrow and specific set of circumstances.
